Union Memorial became our family church when my grandparents Milton & Ernestine Hawkins moved from Christ Methodist in East Baltimore to the area. Reverend Carrington was Godfather to my uncle Collins Shepherd and brought the family with him. I was confirmed by Reverend Carrington in the 60’s and married in 1984 by Reverend Parham. We then worshiped as a family with my infant son Keith Johnson and cousins. With marriage I transferred to Epworth. Due to divorce and the death of my mother Mildred Blackwell, I needed spiritual healing and peace, and transferred back from Epworth to come home. I have served as a member of the Beautification Committee for several years after just starting to help one day in the Social Hall. I was asked to become a Trustee in January 2020 and I accepted to continue the example shown to me by my uncle. With the birth of my new grandson in September 2020 I’m hoping to have him baptized at Union Memorial as well.
